She is depicted as a warrior goddess in the three-foot-high granite idol that holds variant weapons in her seven hands and the head of the slain demon.
It is believed that Shivaji Maharaj along with Rajmata Jijau always visited the temple to seek her blessings.
According to the famous legend of Shivaji Maharaj’s life states that Shree Bhavani presented him a sword to receive success in every expedition.
The goddess is still the Kuladevi (family deity) of the Bhosale family and other royal houses.
The main temple rituals start from 5 o’clock in the morning with Chaughada Vidhi, where large drums in the Nagarkhana are played loudly to honor the goddess.
After this Charantirtha is performed that is continued with Kakad Aarti. The day ends with Prakkshal ritual and Shejarti.
